If you thought the biggest news for Gears of War was a sequel, guess again. According to ComingSoon.net, the movie adaptation of Microsoft’s hit sci-fi game first person shooting Gears of War is set to be released for the summer of 2010.

Back in 2007, New Line Cinema had bought the film rights to Gears of War and are now putting the purchase into motion. The reported director for this movie is Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean) and the production team will be Temple Hill Entertainment. Hopefully, this game-turned-movie won’t be a flop with the aid of Epic Games Lead Designer Cliff Bleszinski assiting Beattie in creating the pitch for the movie, which may see another 300-esque type of visual effects in store.
