Rumors have swirled for months about the supposed multiplayer in Grand Theft Auto IV, and we finally have confirmation of it existing and the game modes surrounding the upcoming blockbuster due out in April. PSM Magazine in Spain has provided a few details that we’ll go over in this article.
Rockstar is doing what we wish more companies would do, and they’re giving the consumers what they’re asking for. Players will be able to edit their online characters info such as race, sex, skin color, hair, clothing, etc. After many gamers were introduced to the Saints Row series, this was something that gamers had been begging for from Rockstar, and they are delivering. There are 15 confirmed game modes for multiplayer, but we’ve only received confirmation on 14 of them.

The game modes confirmed so far are:
Hangmans Noose
Car Jack City
Bomb da Base
Bomb da Base II
Mafia Work
Team Mafia Work
Deathmatch
Team Deathmatch
Turf War
Cops N Crooks
Race
GTA Race
Deal Breaker
Free Roam
The host of the game makes the rules, in "Race" and "GTA Race", the host decides the vehicles and laps, in Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch he decides the number of peds, the flow of traffic, the intervention of police and the weapons. In terms of the amount of players being able to play in a match, you’re looking at a maximum of 16.
Mafia and Team Mafia work, you will play as one of Kenny Petrovics mafia henchmen, competing to complete hits ordered by the boss over your phone before your rivals. In "Cops ’N Crooks", a group of players will play as police, other as criminal, the police must make sure they don’t escape alive, and they can also see the criminals location on their GPS while criminals have no clue as to where the police are.
Free Roam has to be the biggest feature that we noticed in the list above, and we’re honestly extremely excited for that to be introduced to the GTA IV multiplayer. We’ll have more information for you on the multiplayer aspects of the game as more information is revealed to us.
